Meghan felt the exhilaration when she listened to Reid and Luke bantering with Nathan. The euphoria was not just about the adventure lying ahead, but more to do with the man taking up space behind her on the quad bike.
The brothers promised Jennifer and herself a morning to remember. They were taking the quads up to one of the mountain pools where they would have a picnic.
The December day was hot, and the sun was already burning her skin. At Reidâs suggestion, Meghan slapped on more sunscreen before she left her room. She was now glad she did because she could already feel the sunâs effect.
Melanie had a rare day off to join them. She sat behind Luke and Reid and Jennifer were on the other bike. Nathanâs breath felt warm, heating her skin when he whispered in her ear, âAre you ready?â
Meghan nodded and then his arms slid around her. His hands came to rest on the handles of the bike, covering hers.
Their departure was sudden, catching Meghan by surprise. When she screamed, Nathan laughed in her ear, and her body reacted.
Damn, the man was sexy, and he was doing things to her body she should better leave alone.
The three brothers raced each other, and Nathan shouted elated when he passed Luke, who had slowed down. The next moment Meghan knew why Luke had as they hit a mud pool left from the previous nightâs unexpected summer shower. The mud splattered over them, with Meghan getting the brunt.
Nathan drew in his breath in shock, but Meghan couldnât help it. She burst out laughing. She guessed she shocked the living daylights out of him when she did because he was quiet at first, but then his body shook when he also laughed.
They were still smiling when they reached the pool ahead of the others. Nathan pressed his head in her hair and tightened his arms around her, breathing deep. It only lasted a second or two before he lifted his head before he got off the bike and helped Meghan.
Meghan stretched but turned to face Nathan when he took her hand and tugged. A gentle smile played around the corners of his mouth as he took in her appearance. Before the others reached them, he whispered, âIf your face were not full of mud, I wouldâve kissed you right now.â
Meghan didnât hesitate. Before Nathan could react, she flung herself at him, kissing his cheek. He tried to push her away, but it was too late. He was already wearing the evidence of her onslaught on his shirt and face.
Meghan leaned back to study him and then she stilled. He had a look of wonder on his face while he studied her. He lifted his hand, and with one finger, he wiped off the mud that clung to her eyelashâso gently Meghanâs breath hitched.
She recognised that look. Nathan wouldâve kissed her if the others had not arrived just then. To be honest, she wanted to kiss him too.
And she realised something
